Paris Fashion Week this year was from March 1st to the 9th. Paris is the last of the Big 4 fashion weeks. The other four are New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, and Milan Fashion Week. All sorts of celebrities come out of the woodwork to attend these events.
This year, the always colorful Kanye West showed up in colorful motorcycle garb. Over a plain grey t-shirt, West wore a bright red motorcycle jacket. The leather was accented with gold hardware. Setting fashion trends is something West is known for, so I wouldn’t be surprised if motorcycle jackets became a main stream fashion fad this year.
Last month, Tommy Hilfiger unveiled his Men’s Fall 2011 clothing line. The collection was designed to combine elements of boarding schools and Brooklyn clubs. This mix of prep and indie is a far cry from the more traditional suits that Hilfiger is known for.
What I liked best about the collection was the mixing of soft with hard edge. There was definitely a focus on men’s motorcycle jackets. The hard edge and rebellion paired with preppy separates is pure genius. It will be interesting to see if other designers start copying motorcycle chic in their own collections.
